Vineet Kumar is a seasoned Indian actor whose career spans over four decades across theatre, film, and television. Born in Patna, Bihar, he graduated from Bihar National College and Patna University before joining the National School of Drama, New Delhi, where he completed his Masters and Fellowship in Dramatic Arts. His years in theatre, including active involvement with IPTA Patna and the JP Movement, gave him a strong foundation in discipline, performance craft, and stage presence.
His early film career saw him take on impactful roles in Drohkaal, Kachche Dhaage, Aks, Yeh Dil, Soch, and Shool, which quickly established him as a versatile performer. Over the years, he broadened his range, appearing not just in Hindi cinema but also in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Bhojpuri films. His performance in the Telugu blockbuster Vikramarkudu earned him wide acclaim, while his role in Masaan (screened at Cannes, 2015) was described by critics as “brilliant,” cementing his standing as a powerful character actor. More recently, he was seen in Ramprasad Ki Tehrvi (2019) and in the socially sharp short film The Sadist (2024).
On the global stage, Vineet Kumar has worked in international productions such as Return to Rajapur with Lynn Collins and Bhopal: A Prayer for Rain alongside Martin Sheen and Mischa Barton. He became a household name with his role as Kachua Chacha in the popular sitcom Lapataganj on SAB TV, & later earned the Jury Award for Best Actor in a Negative Role at the Indian Television Academy Awards in 2016 for Jaana Na Dil Se Door.
Beyond acting, Vineet Kumar has lent his voice to narrations, hosted shows, and taken up corporate assignments, reflecting the many ways he has contributed to the performing arts.
